In this episode of The Lead, former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Karnataka, Brij Kishore Singh talks about the conservation of forests and how one legislation is the acceleration the depletion of forest area.

Ahmed Shariff: Forests are our saviours. It is ingrained in our traditions to honour these green abodes and do so we have some legislations too, one such is the Scheduled Tribes and Other Forest Dwellers Recognition of Forest Rights Act (2006) and Rules of 2008. Now, there some issues dealing with this legislation. To talk more about that we are joined by the Retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Karnataka, Brij Kishore Singh, who has written a book, forest rights act accelerated deforestation, detailing the issues about this legislation. Ahmed: What made you write this book?

Brij Kishore Singh: When I went out in different states on the duties assigned by the Wildlife Institute of India, Global Tiger Forum, National Conservation Authority and all the institutes of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, I came across the Act being misused left, right and centre.
