Delhi police has arrested two Kashmiri students who were purportedly part of an ISI-sponsored hacker group that had been defacing the government websites.
The arrested have been identified as Shahid Malla, a BTech student, and Aadil Hussain, a BCA student in a Punjab-based university. A hunt is on for other suspects in the case.
According to Delhi Police, the duo are reportedly part of an "anti-national hacking group" called "Team Hackers Third Eye". They are suspected to have hacked around 500 Indian websites, including that of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in January this year.
A case of sedition and Section 66 of the IT Act has been registered against them.
The officials claimed that the youths were linked to the ISI-sponsored programme to target India's cyber infrastructure. Two Pakistani nationals Faisal Afzal and Amir Muzaffar, who are part of hackers group Pak Cyber Attacker, were suspected to be in touch with the youths. They were suspected to be behind the hacking of Indian websites since 2016.
The arrest of the duo came following a tip-off about the suspects from a military intelligence unit.
