A taxi driver and his friend have been arrested for killing a transporter after abducting him from Vasant Vihar in south Delhi last week, police said on Friday.
Rajesh Tiwari, 26, and Raj Kumar, 23, who hail from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district, were held over investigation after Basant Gaon Bodhraj went missing on September 13.
“Rajesh, who was a tenant at Bodhraj’s house, planned to rob a taxi in Delhi and use it in his native village. He approached his friend Raj and hired a taxi from Bodhraj. On September 13, they killed Bodhraj and fled with the vehicle to Sultanpur,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
Bodhraj’s brother approached police and stated that he was last seen with Rajesh. Local investigations then revealed that Rajesh and one of his friends had hired a Maruti Van from Bodhraj for Rs 2,200. “They were scheduled to travel to Loni in Ghaziabad,” Sharma added.
After Bodhraj and Rajesh’s cellphones were found switched off, the needle of suspicion pointed towards his involvement. “We then received information that Rajesh was seen in his native village in Uttar Pradesh and was planning to escape to Nepal,” Sharma added.
Immediately, a team was dispatched to Sultanpur district and Rajesh was nabbed during a midnight operation. At his instance, Raj was arrested.
They confessed to have killed Bodhraj after robbing his car and valuables. “The robbed car was found parked in the fields of village. They further led us to the place where Bodhraj’s valuables were concealed,” Sharma said.
It has come to light that Rajesh and Raj had dumped Bodhraj’s body in Ghaziabad and it was already recovered by Uttar Pradesh Police.
