At least 30 CRPF recruits were admitted to a hospital after they fell ill while undergoing training near the Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh border.

They were taken to rough terrain in neighbouring districts of Mirzapur and Rewa from a CRPF camp in Phaphamau some days ago.

Many of them complained of vomiting and diarrhoea on Monday. They were rushed back to their parent camp, where doctors referred them to a private hospital.

According to doctors, some of the jawans showed symptoms of jaundice. Their blood samples have been sent for tests. Some jawans alleged that they had been drinking contaminated water even at the base camp, where the drainage system was not working.

However, a senior CRPF official said the recruits were supposed to consume only limited quantity of water during training, which was meant to make them tough in an actual operational situation.
