Four suspected cases of chickenpox were reported from a private school on Tuesday, prompting health department to take precautionary steps.

“We had four suspected cases of chickenpox among our students. Our medical officer confirmed it. We have informed the parents of these children and advised them to seek a second opinion," said Joyce Koul, headmistress of Kashmir Valley School at Humhama.

Koul added that students showing symptoms of the contagious disease have been isolated and sent back home.

Meanwhile, health minister Sham Lal Sharma has deputed a team to the school for a full assessment of the situation.
