A 70-year-old businessman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a licensed revolver at his office in Sunlight Colony of south Delhi on Tuesday, police said.
Amarjeet Singh of Siddhartha Enclave had started “Cine India”, which rents out equipment used for cinematography, after retiring as senior cameraman with Doordarshan.
“Locals had approached police after a gunshot was heard from Amarjeet’s office at flat number three in Siddharth Enclave at 7:58 am on Tuesday,” official said.
When they went inside the office premises, they saw him lying in a pool of blood, the official added.
Cops rushed to the spot and took Amarjeet to the AIIMS trauma centre, where he was declared brought dead.
“He had shot himself on the right temple with his licensed revolver. The weapon and its license have been seized,” the official added.
No foul play
They also ruled out foul play or a burglary. “Nothing was found disturbed at the spot, which was inspected by a crime team. An investigation is being conducted to know the cause behind the suicide,” the official said.
Amarjeet owned four flats in Siddhartha Enclave.
While he lived in one, his office was in the second flat and two flats were rented out.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and daughter.
“He presently lived alone at the house, as two of his sons are settled in Mumbai and the other two are abroad,” added the official. His wife lives with one of their sons in Mumbai, the official said.
While working with Doordarshan, Amarjeet was involved with numerous short films and documentaries.
It is believed that presently he was involved with setting up of cameras for Rajya Sabha television.
An initial investigation has revealed that Amarjeet had bought 10 cartridges from a firearms dealer at Laxmi Nagar on Monday.
He is believed to have used one to shoot himself.
