Over 8,300 bottles of illicit liquor were seized during a late Friday night raid at a godown allegedly owned by Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate from Uttam Nagar constituency Naresh Balyan.

A case has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station. However, Naresh has not been named in the case as the ownership of the godown is yet to be confirmed.

Police say the recovered liquor was meant for distribution during the forthcoming Assembly elections.

AAP blames BJP
On Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party said Naresh has got nothing to do with the recovered liquor and alleged it was old tactics of Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress to defame them.

According to police, the bottles were stashed in 497 cartons at a godown in Om Vihar Phase-1.

“We received information that illicit liquor was being transported from Haryana to Delhi for distribution amongst voters,” said Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

A team of crime branch was deputed to keep a watch over such influx of illicit liquor from neighbouring states.

On Friday, specific input was received that a huge haul of illicit liquor was stacked up in the godown.

The information was also shared with the area returning officer (RO) and the local police.
“The RO along with flying squad and local police also reached the spot.

A search was conducted in the presence of all these officers and a huge haul of illicit liquor was recovered from the godown,” Yadav added.
