SECRET GETAWAY
I
Go away
Now and then
To my favourite haven
No
Permission needed
To get there
Neither ticket, nor fare.
No
Home-work there
Or other worries
I do whatever I please.
It’s
Magic Land
– Where chocolates grow
On the trees in a row,
– Where
A magic carpet
Is free to ride
Or to travel far and wide
– where
There are
No studies, whatsoever
And exams? No, never!
You
Sure can
Go there too
Whenever it suits you.
It’s
Easily accessible
And quick to find
Tucked away in the mind.
This
Wonderful place
And perfect nation
Is nothing but – imagination
A
Perfect getaway
From our busy schedule
And the monotony of school.
JOY RIDE
A tuft of hair
A lone feather
A single, stray gas balloon
All sailing and drifting and blowing away
Destination unknown.
The tuft of hair
Now here, now there
Carried aimlessly
By the flow of air.
The feather – I see it swing
Must be used to flying
Before it parted
From some lofty bird’s wing.
The balloon gone astray
I can see it gently sway
Blown by the breeze
Till it’s a tine speck – far, far away.
SILLY PETS
My dear dog Daisy
Is so bashful and coy
But the dog she’s in love with
Is just a stuffed toy!
My pet parrot Polly
Mimics everybody
Even the cuckoo in the clock,
And the burp of a baby!
My neighbour’s sheep Shylie
Cuddles up to me
For the wool of my sweater
Is sheared from her mom, you see!
RAQ (RARELY ASKED QUESTIONS)
Does an embarrassed sheep feel sheepish?
How does a frog play leap-frog?
How tough a life is called a dog’s life
When it is led by what else – a dog?
Does a chicken chicken out
When it is cowardly in fear?
When a crocodile feigns grief,
Does it shed a crocodile tear?
Does a goose get goose-flesh

When in great excitement?
Can an ass make an ass of himself?
And a fish fish for a compliment?
THE SCARECROW
The depressed scarecrow in the field
Was feeling sadder than before
For none of the crows and birds around
Were scared of him any more
They even built a nest or two
On his hair that was made of hay
The kids, they found him funny
And laughed at him all day
Unless he gets a make-over
Of his facial expression
He’ll have better prospects
In a clown’s profession
