Congress on Monday demanded unilateral withdrawal of the FIR lodged against the Tribune newspaper and its journalist for reporting chinks in the Aadhaar security architecture that gave unauthorised access to the UIDAI database.

Terming the naming of the newspaper and the journalist in the FIR as a "fascist" action, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari called all "progressive, right thinking" people to stand united against the systematic repression of democratic dissent by the Modi government.

"We would like to tell the people of India in the next 12 to 18 months there will be a chance to once again decide the kind of government they   want post 2019 and they must seriously introspect, they must seriously reflect, they should make a choice," Tewari told reporters here.

"Do you want a liberal or democratic India or do you want a theocratic and fascist India. That is the choice that you need to make," he said

Tewari said if the government believed in the freedom of the press, then the true test of that would be a unilateral withdrawal of the FIR by the UIDAI.
