Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu wins from Mukto
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu won from the Mukto assembly constituency for the third consecutive time, defeating his lone rival Thupten Kunphen of the Congress by a margin of 2,602 votes.
Khandu won the seat in 2011 bye-election and was re-elected unopposed in 2014.
His political journey began after his father and former chief minister Dorjee Khandu died in a helicopter crash near Luguthang in Tawang district in April 2011.
The ruling BJP in the state has so far won 25 seats, including three unopposed, out of 35 seats.
While Janata Dal United (JDU) made its debut in the state with six seats, the opposition Congress has won three. Independent candidates have won two seats, the NPP and the PPA one each.

Will continue to work for ushering in clean politics: Pawan Kalyan
After his five-year-old Jana Sena put in a dismal show in its first electoral battle in Andhra Pradesh,party chief Pawan Kalyan said on Thursday he would continue to work for ushering in a change and clean politics.
The 'Power Star' of Telugu films, Kalyan lost both Bhimavaram and Gajuwaka Assembly seats he contested, according to Election Commission data. He congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on the landmark victories of their respective parties.
Talking to reporters, Kalyan said the Jana Sena had actually set out on a 25-year journey and will continue to remain in politics "till my last breath."
"We are here to bring in a change by doing clean politics. We may have lost the elections but we will work towards new-age politics," Kalyan said.
"In this journey we are required to withstand all turmoils and we are ready for that," he noted.
Kalyan thanked all those who voted for Jana Sena.

Accept the verdict of the people: Chandrababu Naidu
Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday he accepted the verdict of the people of Andhra Pradesh and congratulated YSR Congress on its victory in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state.
He also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over their electoral victories. "Elections are over, results have come. In a democracy, it is our responsibility to accept peoples verdict. I congratulate YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on his party's victory," Naidu said at a press conference. He said the TDP would now review the results and announce the future course of action.
"We will review how the party should now function and go forward. I will not talk anything now," he said in response to a question. The TDP that won 102 Assembly seats in 2014, now looks set to bag a mere 24 seats in the 175-member AP Assembly as the main opposition YSR Congress is headed for a landslide victory with 150 seats.
While the TDP contested the 2014 election in alliance with the BJP and outside support of Jana Sena, it fought the 2019 general elections on its own and faced a rout. Naidu forwarded his resignation from the Chief Ministers post to the state Governor E S L Narasimhan, who accepted it.

YSRC wins 3 seats, leading in 145 others; set for an overwhelming win
The YSR Congress on Thursday appeared on course for an overwhelming victory in Andhra Pradesh with its candidates winning three seats and leading in 145 others, dealing a knockout blow to the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party.
The TDP is leading in 26 seats and actor-politician's Jana Sena party in one, according to the latest Election Commission data at 6.15 pm. The Y S Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSRC may end up with over a three-fourths majority in the 175-member Assembly.
YSRC sources said the party's Legislature Party will meet here on May 25 to formally elect Jaganmohan Reddy as its leader.
Reddy will take oath as Chief Minister in the temple-town of Tirupati on May 30, the sources said.
With his party set to wrest power, Reddy Thursday termed it as people's victory. He also said the YSRC's victory was expected. "I sincerely thank the people who overwhelmingly voted for YSRC and blessed it.
I also thank them for exercising their franchise in large numbers and enhanced the value of democracy," Jaganmohan Reddy said in a Facebook post. "I will live up to the expectations of the people," he promised. As the trends indicated a clear lead for the YSRC, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao called Reddy over phone and congratulated him over the YSRC's thumping win in the general elections. YSRC candidates are leading in 24 Lok Sabha seats and the TDP in one, according to the latest trends.
Wishing Reddy all the best, Rao hoped he would lead AP further on the path of progress.
Later, talking to the media at his residence here, the YSRC chief congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP's stupendous performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
Reddy asserted that his fight for securing special category status for Andhra Pradesh would continue.
He declined to speak about Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Several top TDP leaders, including many ministers, are on the verge of defeat.
BJP moving ahead in Arunachal assembly
The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh moved ahead winning 10 out of the 13 assembly seats results of which were declared so far Thursday.
It has already won three seats uncontested taking the total number of those bagged by it to 13 and is poised to annex more as the party is leading in another 10 seats trends of which were available.
First timers JD(U) has bagged two and an independent one in the election to the 60-member house held on April 11.
BJP, however, received a major setback with Speaker Tenzing Norbu Thongdok, who represented the Kalaktang constituency in West Kameng district for the last two terms, facing defeat in the hands of Dorjee Wangdi Kharma of JD-U, a new comer, by a margin of 1726 votes.
In another setback home minister Kumar Waii representing Bameng seat in East Kameng district for the last two terms lost to new comer Goruk Pordung of the BJP.
Among those who won are Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein who had contested from Chowkham constituency for the first time, won the seat by a margin of 7,291 votes defeating his lone rival Khunang Kri of the Congress.
The BJP retained the seat, which was represented by Meins elder brother C T Mein earlier.
The deputy chief minister, who won from Lekang seat in Namsai district in the past five consecutive terms since 1995, had to leave his citadel this election following the Permanent Residence Certificate issue which had turned violent.
Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, who was seeking re-election from Pongchau-Wakka seat, defeated his nearest rival Thangkai of the Congress by a margin of 3788 votes.
PHE Minister Wangki Lowang of BJP retained the Namsang seat in a multi-cornered contest by defeating his nearest rival Ngonglin Boi of the NPP by a margin of 1682 votes.
Sitting BJP MLA from Liromoba constituency in West Siang district Nyamar Karbak won from the seat for the third time defeating his nearest rival Jarpum Gamlin of the National Peoples Party by a margin of 664 votes.
Sitting BJP MLA from Khonsa East seat, Wanglam Sawin retained the seat by defeating his nearest rival Danhang Phuksa of the NPP by a margin of 1594 votes.
Gum Tayeng who represented Dambuk constituency in Lower Dibang Valley district, retained the seat by defeating her nearest rival Tony Pertin of the NPP by 873 votes.
New Comer Tana Hali Tara of the BJP won from Doimukh constituency defeating his nearest rival Nabam Vivek of National Peoples Party (NPP) by 2, 385 votes.
In prestigious Itanagar constituency, JD(U) candidate Techi Kaso retained the seat winning by a slender margin of 302 votes in a multi-cornered contest and defeating his nearest rival Kipa Babu of the BJP.
Sitting MLA from Lumla constituency in Tawang district, Jambey Tashi was re-elected from the seat by defeating his lone rival Jampa Thirnly Kunkhap of the Congress by a margin of 1288 votes. The BJP retained the seat.
Sitting BJP MLA from Nari Koyu constituency Kento Rina retained the seat by defeating his nearest rival Tojir Kadu of the Congress by a margin of 216 votes in a triangular contest.
In Bordumsa-Diyun seat in Changlang district, independent candidate Somlung Mossang tasted victory by defeating his nearest rival Jawra Maio of the BJP by a margin of 2379 votes.
The saffron party had won 11 seats in the 2014 assembly polls.

Pawan Chamling wins from Poklok Kamrang seat
Sikkim Chief Minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supremo Pawan Chamling won the Poklok Kamrang Assembly seat, election officials said Thursday.
Chamling defeated his nearest Sikkim Krantikari Morcha rival Kharka Bahadur Rai by 2,899 votes, they said.
He is also contesting from the Namchi Sinhithang seat where. Chamling is also leading from the seat.
Chamling has been the chief minister of Sikkim for more than 24 years since December 1994.
YSRC leads in 22 LS seats in Amaravati
The YSR Congress is leading in 22 Lok Sabha seats and the TDP in three, according to Election Commission trends at 5 pm.
The TDP, BJP and Congress are nowhere in the picture. All parties fought the April 11 election for 25 Lok Sabha seats on their own without any alliance, unlike in 2014 when the TDP-BJP sailed together.
Earlier trends showed that the YSRC was leading in all 25 Lok Sabha seats.
KCR congratulates Naveen Patnaik
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday congratulated Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on his party BJD's victory in the Assembly elections.
"Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in a message congratulated and conveyed his greetings to Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha on his party's (BJD) victory in the Assembly elections," a release from Rao's office said.
BJD candidates were ahead in more than 100 of the 146 assembly seats in Odisha for which polling was held in four phases.
SKM wins 7 seats, leading in 4 seats, SDF wins 3
The opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) won seven Assembly seats and is leading in four constituencies while the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front won three and is ahead in six, election officials said Thursday.
Sikkim has 32 Assembly seats.
Chief Minister and SDF supremo Pawan Chamling won the Poklok Kamrang Assembly seat defeating his nearest Sikkim Krantikari Morcha rival Kharka Bahadur Rai by 2,899 votes, they said.
He is also contesting Namchi Singhithang seat from where he is also leading by 289 votes.
Sitting MLA and SKM candidate Sonam Lama won the Sangha Assembly seat defeating his nearest Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) rival Tshering Lama by 618 votes, they said.
SKM candidate Lok Nath Sharma won the Gyalshing- barnyak seat defeating his nearest SDF rival Laxuman Sharma by 1,814 votes.
In the Kabi lungchuk seat Karma Loday Bhutia of SKM wom defeating his nearest SDF rival Ugen Nedup Bhutia by 1,437 votes.
Mani Kumar Sharma of SKM won the Khamdong-singtam seat by defeating his nearest SDF rival Garjaman Gurung by 873 seats.
In the Shyari seat Kunga Nima Lepcha of SKM won by defeating his nearest SDF rival Karma Wangdi Bhutia by 1,356 votes.
Sikkim Democratic Front candidate Gay Tshering Dhungel won the Upper tadong seat defeating his nearest SKM rial Anand Lama by 416 votes.
In West pendam seat L B Das of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha won by defeating his nearest SDF rival Gopal Baraily by 898 votes.
SKM candidate Sangay Lepch won the Yoksam-tashiding seat by only 79 votes defeating his nearest SDF rival Dichen Wangchuk Bhutia.
SDF candidate Tashi Thendup Bhutia won the Barfung seat by defeating his nearest SKM rival Lobzang Bhutia by 79 votes.
The SKM is leading in five seats while the ruling SDF is ahead in six seats.

The ruling BJP in Arunachal Pradesh won seven Assembly seats and is leading in 11 constituencies, election officials said on Thursday.
The Janata Dal United and an Independent candidate also won a seat each.
Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has 60-seats, but elections were held for 57 seats as three BJP candidates had already won unopposed.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein won the Chowkham seat defeating his nearest Congress rival Khunang Kri by 7,291 votes.
The deputy chief minister who had won from the Lekang constituency in Namsai district for the last five consecutive terms since 1995 but this time contested from the Chowkham seat.
Tana Hali Tara of the BJP won from Doimukh constituency defeating his nearest rival Nabam Vivek of the National Peoples Party (NPP) by 2, 385 votes.
BJP retained the seat as in 2014, Nabam Rebia of BJP had won from the seat.
In the Itanagar constituency, Janata Dal United candidate Techi Kaso won by a slender margin of 302 votes in a multi-cornered contest, defeating his nearest rival Kipa Babu of the BJP.
Kaso who retained the seat, polled 12,162 votes while Babu polled 11, 860 votes.
First timer Goruk Pordung of the BJP won the Bameng Assembly seat defeating Home Minister Kumar Waii of the NPP by a margin of 393 votes.
Sitting MLA from Lumla constituency in Tawang district Jambhi Tashi of BJP was re-elected by defeating his lone rival Jampa Thirnly Kunkhap of the Congress by a margin of 1,288 votes.
While Tashi polled 4567 votes, Kunkhap could poll 3279 votes.
PHE Minister Wangki Lowang (BJP) retained the Namsang seat in a multi-cornered contest, by defeating his nearest rival Ngonglin Boi of the NPP by a margin of 1682 votes.
While Lowang polled 3,202 votes Boi could manage 1,520 votes.
Sitting BJP MLA from Nari Koyu constituency Kento Rina retained the seat by defeating his nearest rival Tojir Kadu of the Congress by a margin of 216 votes in a triangular contest.
The BJP retained the seat.
While Rina polled 2,489 votes, Kadu polled 2,273 votes.
In the un-reserved Bordumsa-Diyun seat in Changlang district, Independent candidate Somlung Mossang tasted victory by defeating his nearest rival Jawra Maio of the BJP by a margin of 2,379 votes.
BJP woman candidate Gumtayeng won the Damduk seat defeating her nearest NPP rival Tony Pertil by a margin 873 votes.

In Andhra, CPI says BJP won on nationalism agenda
The CPI on Thursday said BJP's poll narrative centred on nationalism worked for the party in a big way in the Lok Sabha elections.
"I think it looks like nationalism worked for them in northern states and Karnataka," CPI General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy told PTI commenting on the Lok Sabha poll outcome.
"Nationalism worked (for the BJP)... points raised by opposition unemployment, price rise, and ommissions and commissions of the BJP did not stand before the nationalism, particularly northern states," he said.

BJP ahead in both Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh
The BJP is leading in both the Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Election officials said on Thursday.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju is leading by a margin of 71,239 votes in Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency against his nearest rival former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki of the Congress.
Rijiju had won the seat in 2014 by a margin of 41,738 votes.
In the Eastern Parliamentary seat, Tapir Gao of the BJP is leading by a margin of 33,097 votes against his nearest rival Lowangcha Wanglat of the Congress.
Congress candidate Ninong Ering had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Goa: BJP loses Panaji Assembly seat held by Parrikar to Cong
The BJP, which held the PanajiAssemblyseat in Goa for 25 years, Thursday lost it to the Congress, whose candidate Atanasio Monserratte won the bypoll.
The PanajiAssemblybypoll was necessitated due to the death of sitting MLA and former chief minister Manohar Parrikar in March.
Monserratte secured 8,748 votes while BJP's Siddharth Kunkolienkar polled 6,990 votes, anelectionofficial said.
The Goa Suraksha Manch candidate and former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar came in at the third spot, getting just 560 votes while AAP's nominee Valmiki Naik came in fourth with 436 votes.
In the 2017Assemblypoll, Kunkolienkar had defeated Monserratte by around 1,600 votes.
After the counting began on Thursday morning, Monserratte maintained a steady lead against his rivals in the seat, which witnessed over 75 per cent polling in the bypoll held on May 19.
The BJP, under Parrikar, ruled the constituency for 25 years since 1994.
After the final result came out, Kunkolienkar said he accepted the people's verdict and apologised to the BJP workers for failing to retain the seat.
However, Monserratte took a dig at the BJP, saying the party was "helpless" in Parrikar's absence.

The AIADMK and DMK are in a close fight to win the 22 bypolls which went to polls along with the Lok Sabha elections.For the AIADMK, stakes are higher in theassemblyby-polls, as the outcome would determine its continuance in power.If the ruling party managed to hold on to the nine seats it was leading, it could ward off any threat to the K Palaniswami government. The DMK was leading in 11 seats while AIADMK in nine, according to the EC trends.

Opposition YSR Congress surged ahead taking early leads in over 108 seats, leaving the ruling TDP far behind at 21 in theassemblyelectionsin Andhra Pradesh. The Jana Sena, which was expected to mar the prospects of both the ruling and the opposition parties, is ahead in one seat as per the trends made available for 130 of the total 175 seats by theElectionCommission as of 10.30 am. TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu initially trailed by 67 votes but bounced back to secure a lead 1,126 votes over his nearest YSRC rival. Counting of votes begin in Arunachal Pradesh
Counting of votes for two Lok Sabha constituencies and 57Assemblyseats in Arunachal Pradesh began on Thursday amidst a massive security blanket, an official said.
Overnight downpour could not dampen the spirit of the people as they were seen making a beeline to the counting centres since early morning to know the result of candidates.

While, a sitting MLA of Arunachal Pradesh, his minor son and nine others accompanying him were gunned down by suspected NSCN (IM) militants in Tirap district around noon on Tuesday. Meanwhile, ANI reported that unidentified assailants fired upon Congress candidate for Odisha's Aska Assembly seat, Manoj Jena, in Berhampur.

Congress had won the 2014 Assembly elections but 33 of its 44 MLAs led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu first joined People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and then merged with BJP in 2016 to form the government.
