The BJP core committee which met in Bengaluru on Tuesday is said to have decided to spare no efforts to win the Jayanagar assembly seat, the election to which will be held on June 11.

The election was postponed following the death of sitting MLA B N Vijaykumar. The party has fielded Vijaykumar’s brother B N Prahalad, who is pitted against Sowmya Reddy of the Congress, daughter of former minister R Ramalinga Reddy.

BJP state general secretary Arvind Limbavali told reporters after the meeting that the party’s central election committee will announce on Wednesday the names of five candidates who will be fielded for the election to the Legislative Council, from the Lower House. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa called up Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to announce relief measures in rain-ravaged Mangaluru.
