All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa, on Thursday, said that the BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa is under depression as his son B Y Vijayendra missed the party ticket from Varuna Assembly segment due to internal bickerings in the party.

Speaking to reporters at the Congress party office, here, he said, “Yeddyurappa will be defeated by his own party leaders. The BJP leaders have managed to keep away Vijayendra from electoral politics, which shows that the leaders are conspiring against Yeddyurappa.”

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Congress always gives lollipops, Kalappa said, “Being a PM, he should not make lose comments. Modi should maintain his position’s dignity.”

Taking exception to BJP president Amit Shah speaking about Hindutva, Kalappa asked, who is Shah to speak about Hinduism? “Being a Jain himself, he did not visit Shravanabelagola during the Mahamastakabhisheka held recently. If he had respect for his own community, he should have visited Shravanabelagola. Besides, BJP is anti-Dalit and anti-OBC,” Kalappa said.

CM will win both segments

Kalappa said, “Siddaramaiah, who has contested from both Chamundeshwari and Badami Assembly segments will win with a majority in both the constituencies. When reporters asked if Siddaramaiah wins from both the constituencies, in which constituency he will continue as MLA, Kalappa said, it is too early to answer it and the party high command will take a decision on it.

Kalappa alleged that the BJP and the JD(S) are under a secret pact. Nowhere, the PM or Shah are speaking against JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda and state president Kumaraswamy or the JD(S) itself.

In reply to a query, whether Siddaramaiah’s old supporters in Chamundeshwari have turned rebel against him, Congress district president B J Vijaykumar said, “The supporters are still with him. As Siddaramaiah shifted to Varuna Assembly segment in 2008, there was a slight gap. However, there is no opposition to the CM in Chamundeshwari.”

It may be mentioned that a Dalit leader and gram panchayat member Mariswamy, who supported Siddaramaiah during the 2006 by-election in Chamundeshwari, denied his support for Siddaramaiah. He directly told Siddaramaiah that he is with the JD(S) and will work for the JD(S) candidate G T Devegowda.

Congress city president R Murthy was present.
