A BTech student has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a class 11 student in her house in outer Delhi’s Alipur, police said on Saturday. Two more youths were arrested in other cases of attempt to rape and molestation.
Nitesh Kumar, 21, allegedly went to the 15-year-old victim’s house in the neighbourhood when she was alone, held her hostage and attempted rape on Friday evening, police said.
The incident came to light when neighbours heard her shouting for help.
“The accused was cornered by the neighbours and was beaten up,” a police official said.
One of the neighbours made a call to the police control room and he was handed over when the police arrived.
A case of attempt to rape and wrongful confinement has been registered against Nitesh with Alipur police station. He also faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Nitesh was pursuing BTech from a noted university in UP’s Hamirpur district.
“He was produced before a court on Saturday and was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days,” the official added.
Minor abducted
A 24 year-old-man was arrested for allegedly abducting a six-year-old girl with an intention to rape her in north-east Delhi's Seelampur on Friday.
A police official said Wasim abducted the girl from outside his house, where she was playing with her friends.
“The victim then started crying. Hearing her screams, several people rushed to help and caught the accused red-handed,” the official said.
Wasim was also beaten up by locals before being handed over to police. A case was registered against him with Seelampur police station.
Molestation bid
A youth has been arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a girl at a busy market in south Delhi’s Defence Colony late on Friday, police said.
The victim was out with her friends for dinner, when the incident occurred. Omi, 20, and Tushar tried to molest the girl, but the victim raised an alarm, police said.
Omi was arrested on the spot, but Tushar managed to give police the slip.
