The city government will launch a 800-bed dedicated cancer institute by the name of Delhi State Cancer Institute (South), having comprehensive and modern facilities at par with the best international standards in Chattarpur in south Delhi.
This was decided in a meeting between health minister A K Walia and senior government health officers on Monday.
Walia told the officers to act in tandem to develop Chattarpur into a modern healthcare hub, which will also include a 200-bed general hospital linked internally with the main DSCI (South) and a para-medical training institute with an intake of 500 students every year.
“There is a need to set up a comprehensive cancer care institute in south Delhi to provide world-class treatment facilities to lakhs of residents here,” said Walia.
“While DSCI has plans to open branches, the Cancer Institute in Chattarpur will enable patients from this area to get better facilities than any of its branches,” added Walia.
He said the government will use 14 acre in Chattarpur for this purpose.
He said the earlier project of an independent 200-bed general hospital will not be abandoned. “The hospital will be built on the designated plot, and will be linked internally with DSCI (South). To avoid duplication of services up to some extent, common infrastructure and equipment will be made functional,” said Walia.
To generate more jobs, the government will build a para-medical training Institute with an intake capacity of 500 students. It will be at par with modern technical standards supported by the technical infrastructure and faculty of DSCI, said Walia.
