Accused, two others didn’t pay bill of Rs 295

Three men, including a Punjab police constable, were arrested for firing at a dhaba owner over a petty issue in Chanakyapuri, police said on Tuesday.

Constable Amarjeet Singh, 40, a personal security officer of Ludhiana-based industrialist Neeraj Saluja, and Saluja’s two other employees Rama Karan, 40, and Bhim Bahadur, 32, were arrested.

The trio had come to Delhi to drop Saluja at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Then they went to Arjun Prasad Gupta’s eatery at Kautilya Marg at 11 pm. After eating, they were served a bill of Rs 295.

“Singh allegedly refused to pay the bill, saying men in uniform often do not need to pay. Gupta then asked them to at least give some money, if not the full payment,” a senior police officer said.

One of the three men paid Rs 200 to Gupta but Singh tried to snatch the money. Then Gupta and Singh entered into an argument, following which Singh turned violent.

“He began hitting Gupta and fired at him. Gupta managed to dodge the bullet,” the
officer said.

The three men soon fled the spot in their car. A passer-by managed to follow them to the Taj Palace Hotel on Sardar Patel Marg.

The police rushed to the hotel after Gupta sought help.

A case of attempt to murder has been filed against the three men at Chanakyapuri police station.

42-yr-old man murdered

A 42-year-old vegetable vendor was found murdered at his house in Tilak Vihar of west Delhi on Tuesday, police said.

The body of Manoj Singh was found by his wife and two sons when they returned home from a wedding. They had gone to Bhopal on January 5 to attend the wedding.

“They found the body lying in a pool of blood. He was hit on the head with a blunt object,” a senior police officer said.

Police suspects involvement  of Manoj’s friends.

“His family members said Manoj would often call his friends home for drinks. The murder was probably committed after an altercation with his friends. We did not see any sign of forced entry into the house,” the officer added.

Police said they will get a complete picture of the crime once investigations are complete.
But from the evidence they have got so far, they have  ascertained that he may have been killed by his friends.

The body has been sent for post-mortem at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
