The third cut-off list released by Delhi University on Sunday night has made many students who wanted to switch colleges happier.

Even if the cut-offs dropped only marginally, students who had ‘blocked’ their seats in other colleges were able to take admission at a new college or course.

The DU website was reportedly slow in the morning.  Some students complained that they took half an hour or more to download the forms they needed.  For admissions, students often have to gather at their desired college before 9 am and leave only at 5 pm.

Himani Narula stood outside the Ramjas College’s office from 7 am till about 4.45 pm and was then asked to come back the next day.

As the system of admitting students is on first-come-first-serve basis and everyone fitting the cut-offs has to be admitted, the college is not able to admit all students who come on the same day.

Narula, however, says small glitches such as this are no big deal if she gets admission. Students who got admission in other colleges in courses like Computer Science under the first and second cut-off lists flocked Kirori Mal College and Ramjas College for Physics (Hons) after the third cut-off.

On Monday, Padmini Singh was busy withdrawing from the course to which she had taken admission earlier. She has been busy taking admission, and then withdrawing it for some other course, since the release of the first list.

After the second cut-off list, she withdrew from English (Hons) in Kirori Mal College, where she was admitted under the first cut-off list, and took admission in Political Science (Hons) at the same college. After the release of the third list, she again wanted to withdraw and reserve a seat in Faculty of Law. This year student cannot ‘reserve’ a seat in more than one college under the same cut-off list.

“The procedure of withdrawal is easy. We need to fill an online withdrawal form and give the printout to the college and they give us a receipt. With this receipt, we can apply in another college,” said Singh.

“Blocking seats in some college seemed essential after the first cut-off list were out,” said Singh.
Narula, scored 95 per cent in her 12 board exams. One after the other, she has taken admission at three different colleges for Statistics (Hons) – PGDAV under the first cut-off, Ramanujan College after the second list and Ramjas after the third.

“I think that Statistics (Hons) is best in Hindu College and if I get it there in the next two cut-offs, I won’t mind withdrawing again and again from any other college,” said Narula.
