The BJP’S national council meet in the city on Saturday is the first big test for Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay’s event management skills.

Apart from the arrangements for the delegates, the Delhi BJP has activated its office bearers and district units for ensuring an impressive turnout at the venue which has been sanitised by the security agencies.

Upadhyay told reporters on Friday that the meeting at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here to ratify the appointment of Amit Shah as party’s new president would be a “memorable” experience for the delegates.

In the run-up to the event he formed eight teams and delegated work related to arrangement for food, transportation, security, decoration, boarding and lodging of delegates to them.

Refreshments and lunch would be served at the venue for the delegates and the mediapersons, said a BJP leader.

The Delhi BJP chief had earlier pushed for organising the meeting at the Civic Centre – the office of the South Corporation in which he holds the post of Standing Committee chairman – but the Special Protection Group (SPG) shot down the idea after citing it unfit for hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Top BJP leaders of the country, numbering around 2,300, will converge at the meet whose preparations have being personally overlooked by Upadhyay over the last week or so. Apart from serving fresh snacks and lunch to delegates, Upadhyay and his team have also prepared to lay out the red carpet for the media.

“The first floor gallery of the auditorium will be reserved for the media – quite like the practice in parliament,” said Updahyay.

South Delhi MP and general secretary Ramesh Bidhuri, who has been assisting Upadhyay in putting up a grand show, said the delegates are likely to be hosted in MP flats, guest houses and hotels.

The delegates, including parliamentarians, chief ministers, legislators of all states and national and state party office bearers, would be ferried from their hotels to the venue in vehicles run by party workers, said Bidhuri.

Sources in Delhi BJP said the Union Home Ministry has also conveyed to the Delhi Police to ensure that the event does not cause traffic jams and inconvenience to public in areas like Lodhi Colony, Defence Colony, Golf Links, Pant Nagar and Kasturba Nagar.
