Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who created controversy by targetting BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi for not disclosing that he was married, clarified on Saturday that he had not made any “personal comment” on Modi.

“I did not get personal... I merely stated that in his (Modi) affidavit he had not mentioned something previously,” said Rahul in an interaction with the media after filing his nomination papers in Amethi.

After Modi had filed his nomination papers from Vadodara, Rahul had attacked him for not previously disclosing his marriage.

The Congress leader also dismissed opinion polls that have predicted a dismal result for his party in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. He said similar opinion polls had been proved wrong in 2004 and 2009.

Rahul said he has “family relations” with Amethi and expressed confidence that voters would once again “show their love and affection” for him.

Earlier Rahul filed his nomination papers from Amethi in a grand style.

He was accompanied by his mother and congress chief Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and brother-in-law Robert Vadra.

They held a roadshow in which thousands of people were present, along with senior Congress leaders.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Smriti Irani are Rahul’s challengers in Amethi.

“In 2004 and 2009 also the opinion polls had predicted Congress' defeat but we won...the same is going to happen in 2014 also,” he said.
