Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and former deputy chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday moved the Madras High Court saying that the Tamil Nadu government decision to paint AIADMK’s two leaves symbol on recently small buses and the photograph of party chief Jayalalitha on mineral water bottles made at the cost of the exchequer are violation of model code of conduct.
It asked the court to direct the Election Commission to get the painting and photograph of Jayalalitha removed.
Painting “two Leaves” on buses owned by the government, including the small buses, and also printing Jayalalitha’s picture on water bottles sold in the name and style of “Amma Mineral Water Bottle” amounts to free publicity, unjust and undue advantage at the cost of the public exchequer, he said in a petition. Stalin said the act of the state government would inspire and influence the mind of voterMarch 6, 2014, DHNS's and would impair the election prospects and winning chances of petitioner’s party (DMK) candidates in the ensuing parliamentary election. He said while the government companies should not indulge in any sort of contribution to political parties as such contribution is prohibited under Section 182 of the Companies Act, 2013 (Central Act 18 of 2013). “Yet, no action has been taken", he alleged.
