A 20-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by a transport company owner in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh when she met him for a job interview. The 55-year-old accused has been arrested.

In her statement to police, the victim claimed that she was sexually assaulted when she approached Raj Sahni in search of a job on Friday.

“It is alleged that the owner of the company took her to his cabin and sexually assaulted her,” a police official said.

The victim further claimed that Raj threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the assault. She returned home, but could not muster courage to report the matter to her parents.

The incident, however, came to light when the victim’s parents found her looking a bit nervous. They asked her and she narrated her plight.

Her parents then reported the matter to police. A case under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code was lodged after the victim underwent a medical examination at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

“An investigation was initiated on the basis of the victim’s statement and after medical examination confirmed rape,” the official added.

Police said they are trying to ascertain if Raj has a criminal record.
“The accused is trying to mislead us by saying he was acquainted with the victim. The victim has denied this,” the official said.
