A man was critically injured when he resisted a robbery by four armed miscreants at his mobile phone store in Adarsh Nagar of north-west Delhi. The robbers, however, managed to decamp with Rs 5 lakh in cash, police said on Saturday.
Nitin Singhal, 26, of Suraj Nagar was alone at the shop when the incident took place around 7:30 pm on Friday.
“Two men had barged into the store, while two of their accomplices remained at the gate to keep a watch. They had threatened Nitin of dire consequences if he did not hand over the money kept at the shop,” a police official said.
Nitin retaliated, but could not prevent the store from being looted. He was also stabbed in the scuffle.
The robbers sped away when locals started gathering outside hearing Nitin’s scream for help.
Multiple injuries
“He was immediately taken to Pentamed Hospital in Derawal Nagar, where he is undergoing treatment for injuries on his head, chest and stomach. His condition is critical,” the official added.
A case has been registered for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery and robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt under sections 394 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code at Adarsh Nagar police station.
“A manhunt has been initiated to nab the robbers. Sketches of the robbers will also be prepared with the victim’s help,” the official added.
