A five-year-old girl died after she accidentally fell into an underground water tank in her apartment complex at Rohini area of outer Delhi, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Poorvashi, a nursery student. She lived her father Pavan Kumar and mother Bindiya in Dwarka Sector 9.
“The incident took place at around 7 pm on Friday when Poorvashi was playing outside her ground floor house. She fell inside the underground water tank as its lid was left half-open after maintenance work,” a police official said. The incident was reported to Pavan by a security guard of the apartment complex.
Despite, seeing the girl fall inside the tank, no one tried to save her. She was finally taken out by Pavan after a gap of 10-15 minutes and was rushed to Saroj Hospital.
“Poorvashi was admitted in the ICU, but passed away at around 2.30 am,” the official said, adding that her body was handed back to the family after post-mortem at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.
According to B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer), Poorvashi’s parents have not filed any complaint, as they feel it is a case of accidental death. “If the parents do not file any complaint, we will investigate the matter under section 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence),” Jaiswal added.
The police is currently investigating the matter under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC), relating to unnatural deaths.
