It was a proud moment for Shreya Talwar, topper of the Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) Class X exam in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) region.
“Now, I understand the meaning of the phrase ‘I am on cloud nine,’ ” she said.
Shreya is a student of Holy Child School in Ghaziabad and plans to explore career opportunities in science. “I will take a combination of physics, chemistry and maths in Class XI and joining the IIT is my dream. I will work towards outperforming in Class XII as well,” she said.
The results of the ICSE Class X exam and Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class XII exam were declared on Saturday. The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced that the results were slightly better than last year.
“Girls have done better than boys again, as in the past several years. The pass percentage in ICSE stands at 99.27 per cent, up by 0.55 per cent and for ISC, it is 98.59 per cent, which is up by 0.18 per cent compared to last year,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary, CISCE. Nidhi Singh’s father is overwhelmed and excited to see his daughter score the first position in the ISC exam in Delhi-NCR region. “I couldn’t be happier and I am speechless. She will definitely get a good gift for this achievement,” he said.
Nidhi is shocked but happy with her performance. “I am elated. I was expecting good marks but did not know that I will top the region. It feels like I am on top of this world,” she said.
For Nidhi, it is Economic Honours from one of the renowned colleges of Delhi University. “After postgraduation, I plan to prepare for the Indian Administrative Service,” she said. On how they prepared for the exams, the toppers had similar answers — studied throughout the year and concentrated on textbook material.
At least 2,199 ICSE students appeared from 29 schools and 850 ISC students from 17 schools. Eleven boys and five girls could not pass the ICSE exam, and six boys and six girls could not pass the ISC exams in Delhi-NCR.
