Students on Friday continue to complain about glitches in Delhi University’s online admission form system which is meant to lessen the crowd at the offline form counters and make admission process convenient for outstation students.

“I filled my form online with the demand draft option as it was the only option available for online form payment till Thursday,” said Himanshu Vatsa, student.

Draft number unavailable

But the draft number which is required for the payment was not available online, added Vatsa. He also said his friends told him that they faced similar problems.  In some cases, exactly the opposite happened.

“In my and a few friends’ online forms the payment is taking place without putting the draft number. I hope my form doesn’t get lost because of these glitches,” said Ankit Narang.

On the first day of admission process, students applying through the online system found out there was no online payment system.

Online demand draft

They had to send a demand draft to the dean of students' welfare (DSW) office or submit the form in person.

After a lot of hue and cry on the issue, online payment system began on Thursday. Over 50,000 students have applied online since June 4. Out of which around 4,000 could submit their forms online completely.

According to an official, the technical glitches are being sored out.  “We have received complaints regarding the glitches. We are trying our best to fix the problem soon,” said the official.

DUSU strike for free forms on internet

With Delhi University Students’ Union hunger strike entering its second day on Friday, (DUSU) members said the administration had failed to meet their demand for free online registration, reports DHNS from New Delhi. “The officials ask us to end the strike.
However, there have been no talks regarding our demand,” said a DUSU member. The member pointed at reports about problems in the online admission process coming up everyday.

“Online system has been introduced from this year. To make it student-friendly, it should be made free for all so that more students can use it,” the member added.

The union has also started a signature campaign asking the students and newcomers to show solidarity on the matter. “We have collected 30,000 signatures till Friday,” said the member. According to a senior official, the demand is not legitimate considering the fact that online as well as offline forms are always charged at least for the general category students. “A few days ago two students’ union members sought the option of selling individual forms with or without the prospectus which was legitimate. But we are not planning to sell free online forms,” said the official.

The online registration of forms has crossed the 50,000 mark since the admission process began on June 5.
