Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat and now Oreo!

 The newest addition to this list of alphabetically arranged tasty treats, the latest Google Android operating system—Android 8.0 (Oreo)— which claims to be twice as fast as its predecessor, was launched by Google on Monday.

"Today, we are officially introducing Android 8.0 Oreo, the latest release of the platform–and it’s smarter, faster and more powerful than ever. It comes with new features like picture-in-picture and Autofill to help you navigate tasks seamlessly. Plus, it’s got stronger security protections and speed improvements that keep you safe and moving at light speed, " Sameer Samat, VP of product management Android  & Google Play said in a press release posted on the Google blog.


Some of the top features are:

Background execution limits
More control over how apps run in the background for better overall system performance.

Picture-in-Picture
Allows you to see two apps at once.

Notification categories
More granular and consistent control over which notifications can appear and how intrusive they are.

Notification snoozing
Lets users hide notifications for a period of time, similar to Inbox snoozing.

Emoji
Share the feels with a fully redesigned emoji set, including over 60 new emoji.

Wi-Fi Assistant
Auto-connects you to high-quality open WiFi and secures your connection with a VPN back to Google.

Autofill
With your permission, Autofill remembers your logins to get you into your favourite apps.
