The new Hauz Khas Metro station under Phase-3 will be the deepest station, leaving behind Chawri Bazaar by seven metres.

It will be a junction station like Rajiv Chowk and is expected to be completed by 2016. While the Yellow Line will continue between HUDA City Centre and Jahangirpuri, the upcoming Janakpuri West–Botanical Garden Metro corridors will pass through Hauz Khas.

The new station will be connected with the present Hauz Khas station through a ramp. It will be built opposite Laxman Public School on Hauz Khas Road, facing Outer Ring Road.

“This new interchange station will contribute a lot in decongesting Rajiv Chowk Metro station which registers a footfall of at least five lakh commuters every day,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official.

“Passengers travelling from Gurgaon to Noida and other south Delhi locations like Nehru Place and Kalkaji won’t have to go to Rajiv Chowk. They can change trains at Hauz Khas,” said the official.

Several passengers coming from Gurgaon will now be able to catch a direct train to Botanical Garden in Noida from the proposed Hauz Khas station, reducing travelling time by half-an-hour. At present, Metro journey from HUDA City Centre to Botanical Garden in Noida takes one-and-a-half-hour with the interchange at Rajiv Chowk station. DMRC expects a footfall of over 1.69 lakh passengers at this station by 2016, compared to the present footfall of approximately 40,000 per day.

Under Phase-3, Azadpur, INA and Hauz Khas stations will provide connectivity with Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line.

With 35 stations and a record length of 56 km, the Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor will become the longest corridor of the Delhi Metro after Huda City Centre-Jahangirpuri line.
