The parking woes of motorists visiting the Delhi High Court are all set to get over as the automated underground multi-level car parking was inaugurated on Wednesday.
The underground parking has been constructed on land opposite the Delhi High Court. The parking has the capacity for 1,467 cars at five underground levels, which could be used by judges, advocates, litigants and the staff of the High Court.
While the parking has been integrated with the Delhi High Court complex having vehicular underpass and pedestrian subway, the surface level of the parking has been aesthetically developed with modern landscaping, making provision for sitting arrangements for the general public and support facilities like a cafeteria and a drivers’ lounge.
The parking was inaugurated by chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the presence of judges of Supreme Court and Delhi High Court and Union law minister Salman Khurshid.
“This is a dream come true. The dream has been realised after crossing several hurdles, which we have to cross anyway in case of any projects in the capital,” said Dikshit.
The parking spread over an area of 9862 square metre, has been constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), while the equipment and technology has been supplied by a Korean company, Samjung Tech.
“The parking is equipped with security gadgets. The first basement is In or Out level where the car owner may leave his car in one of the 20 car lifts available,” said V P Vaish, the registrar general of Delhi High Court.
“The car will be taken to one of the basements by the computerised system and parked at an available parking slot automatically for which 50 trollies are available. The sixth basement is meant for large cars,” said Vaish.
“The sensor at teh lift will identify the car which is directly to be taken to the sixth basement. In addition to parking for 1,467 cars at various basement levels, additional parking for 51 cars is available at in or out level for any emergent situation. The maximum parking or retrieval time for a car is three minutes,” he added.
Officials said the parking facility, which has come up at a cost of Rs 182.71 crore will help remove congestion and parking problems around the High Court and nearby heavy-traffic areas such as India Gate, Pragati Maidan, National Stadium, Rajpath and Delhi Zoo near Sunder Nagar.
