Sridevi, one of India's most celebrated actresses in Indian cinema, has died of cardiac arrest in Dubai today.

From charming and comic 'hawa hawai' and sensuous 'kaate nahin kat te' act in Mr India to romantic dramas like Chandni and Lamhe to loss of memory in Sadma, Sridevi has defined stardom by transforming simple roles to stellar performances.

From a child artiste to a star, she has ruled the hearts of millions of Indian fans through her performances in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema.
Her comic-timing and dance numbers are still considered best and she has been a favourite star to both movie-goers and critics, alike.
Sridevi had worked with most of the big actors and filmmakers including Yash Chopra, with whom she did movie Lamhe opposite Anil Kapoor and Chandni opposite Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor.
Sridevi made her debut in Hindi films with movie Solva Sawan in 1979. Four years later she was signed opposite Jeetendra in Himmatwala.
Movie Sadma released in 1983, brought Sridevi a much-awaited critical acclaim. It was a remake of Tamil film Moondram Pirai.
Family
Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in her father's hometown Sivakasi on 13 August 1963. Sridevi married Boney Kapoor, a film producer in 1996. The couple have two daughters, Jahnvi and Khushi.
Post-marriage
Several years after marriage, she worked in Sahara sitcom Malini Iyer (20042005). She made a comeback with English Vinglish in 2011 and was hailed as the "Meryl Streep of India.
Child artiste to Diva
Sridevi started her career as a child artiste at the age of four in Tamil movie Thunaivan
In 1976, Sridevi did her first Tamil film Moondru Mudichu directed by K. Balachander. Thereafter, she did number of films with Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth
In 1981, she was starred in Tamil film Meendum Kokila which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress Tamil.
Sridevi's notable Telugu films include Konda Veeti Simham, Kshana Kshanam, Vetagadu, Sardar Paparayudu and Bobbili Puli. With A. Nageswara Rao, she appeared in movies like Mudulla Koduku, Premabhishekham, Bangaru Kanuka and Premakanuka as well as Kanchu Kagada
Her performance in Ram Gopal Varma's movie Kshana Kshanam won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress Telugu and Andhra's Nandi Award for Best Actress.
