Jaya's assets doubled in 5 years

AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s asset value has doubled in the last five years.

Even her political opponent and DMK president M Karunanidhi’s assets have also increased by more than 40%.

The affidavit, which was filed by Jayalalithaa on Tuesday, said that the total assets of the AIADMK leader is worth about Rs 118 crore, an increase of about 130% compared to 2011 figure of Rs 51 crore.

Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi declared their assets while filing an affidavit along with nomination papers in R K Nagar and Tiruvarur constituencies respectively.

In her affidavit, Jayalalithaa said she had gold articles weighing 21,280 grams, which have been seized by the police and is presently in the custody of the Karnataka government. She owns silver articles weighing about 1,250 kg (valued at Rs 25,000 per kg) amounting to Rs 3.12 crore. Stating that she has a fleet of nine cars, Jayalalithaa said she has liabilities of about Rs 2.04 crore.

In case of Karunanidhi, the affidavit shows that his asset worth is about Rs 63 crore, an increase of about 54% compared to 2011 figure of 41 crore. Karunanidhi has no jewellery, car or house in his name. Most of his assets are in the name of wife.
