Three men were arrested and one juvenile was apprehended for the murders of a woman and her two minor children at their home in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar on September 21. Robbery was the motive behind the triple-murder, police said.
The accused have been identified as Akram, 21, Mohd Shahid, 24, Manjoor, 30, and a juvenile, all of them were working in a jeans factory in Vishnu Garden, and the main culprit knew the woman, police said.
The incident happened on September 21, when Mohd Zafar informed police that his 27-year-old wife Shabnam and two children, aged eight and seven, have been lying dead in a pool of blood in their home.
Police said Shabnam had a wound on the neck and the two children were apparently strangled.
After scanning the vague CCTV footage of the incident, it was found out that a suspected assailant was moving freely with one of the minor victims, said a police officer.
After finding out that a known person was behind the act, a thorough investigation, with the questioning of the relatives and friends of the victims and her husband followed, police said.
It was then found that, Akram, son of Akhlaque Ahmad who was one of the witnesses of the marriage of Shabnam and Zafar, used to visit their home, police said.
After hunting the suspects at several places in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, police finally nabbed Akram in Raghubir Nagar with his accomplice Shahid.
At their instance, Manjoor was caught in Aligarh. The juvenile was next apprehended in Loni, police said.
Police said all the accused were in need of money and decided to rob the house as they knew the woman would be alone with her children.
However, while robbing the house, Shabnam saw them. The culprits feared that she would identify them, hence they killed her and her two children.
The culprits also robbed jewellery worth Rs 10,000 and around Rs 5,400 in cash.
Police said one screw driver, with which she was killed, and a bag which was used to carry the robbed items and cash were recovered from the culprits.
