CM Pinarayi calls Modi again

CM Pinarayi Vijayan calls PM Modi to seek deployment of more forces, helicopters for the rescue operations. 156-member Army-NDRF team is already at work in Pathanamthitta district and Chengannur in Alappuzha district. "Had a detailed discussion with Kerala CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the unfortunate flood situation in the state. Centre stands firmly with the people of Kerala and is ready to provide any assistance needed," PM tweeted yesterday.

A youth stranded at the terrace of his house makes rescue plea on Facebook

In a Facebook live published an hour ago, a youth near Chengannur in Alappuzha district who is stranded at the terrace of his house complained none of the rescue teams responded to his calls.

Southern Naval Command suspends all routine training activities & shifts to the highest state of readiness/ top gear to help flood-affected (as requested by Kerala State Disaster Management Authority). Evacuation continues in Palakkad

The army column (coln) of MEG Centre reached the village Valiyakadu, at Malampuzha in Palakkad district.. The only crossing site for locals including school going children (Anganwadi) was submerged due leaving more than 22 families including children & old aged persons(100 approx) stranded. It took nearly 6 hours to evacuate them. via Defence CPRO.

Transportation hit

As many parts of Kochi submerged, trains are not running in central Kerala. The road transportation is hit due to continuing landslides. Many villages are isolated making the rescue operation more difficult.

Mullaperiyar dam crosses maximum capacity

Mullaperiyar dam crosses maximum capacity. As per the Supreme Court verdict, the authorities can maintain water up to 142 feet. Earlier in a letter to his TN counterpart, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had requested to increase the water flow to Tamil Nadu in order to maintain the level at 139 feet.

Train services cancelled

Due to landslide and flash floods in various sections of Trivandrum division, the change in the pattern of service is as follows.

Landslide at Kuthiran in NH 47. Transportation in this major road connecting Thrissur and Palakkad towns came to a standstill.

Landslide in Pamba

A landslide in Pamba hilltop in Pathanamthitta reported. The villages near Pampa river witnessed a flash flood on Wednesday as the shutters of Anathde dam was opened. Pathanamthitta district is one of the worst affected in Kerala floods.

Many are being airlifted from stranded areas

NDRF rescued 926 persons so far from Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur & Alappuzha districts.

20 deaths reported on Thursday

According to the local news channel reports, 20 people died in the rain-related catastrophe in Kerala on Thursday.

Rescue operation intensifies

40 more NDRF teams, Army special forces, 10 more helicopters from IAF and 4 from Navy, Marine Commandos and two ships and 7 Gemini teams of Coast Guard to reach Kerala soon, said CM Pinarayi Vijayan in a presser. At present 52 units of all the forces at work.
