The Excise Department officials arrested a man for having stored liquor at home, for a 'Roce' ceremony (a Catholic ceremony on the previous day of marriage), of his brother's daughter, without obtaining permission from the Excise Department.

The arrested, Daniel D'Silva, is a resident of Ira in Bantwal taluk. Acting on a tip-off that liquor is stored in the house, the officials from the Excise Department conducted a raid and found 21.375 litres of Indian-made liquor and 250 litres of beer in the house. As D'Silva had not obtained permission from the Department to store liquor, the officers have filed a case against him.

Meanwhile, Excise Department Deputy Commissioner Shailaja said that the model code of conduct will not affect the supply of liquor during a marriage and other private programmes. However, as per the guidelines, one must obtain a permit under CL-5, for the same.
