A 50-year-old man was arrested for selling fake shoes of a prominent brand, police said on Tuesday.
Police recovered over 1,400 shoes with a fake logo of the brand. They also recovered shoe-making machines worth Rs 1.10 crore.
Jaikishan Sapra, 50, a resident of Paschim Vihar, was arrested in Sadar Bazar in central Delhi after the Delhi police economic offence wing got a complaint from Relaxo Footwears on Monday.
“We received a complaint that a shop at Sadar Bazaar was selling counterfeit footwear of Relaxo Footwears,” said K K Vyas, deputy commissioner of police (economic offences).
The police then conducted a raid at Sapra Footwear, from where 80 pairs of fake footwear bearing fake trademark of Relaxo Footwear were recovered.
Jaikishan told police that the consignment was supplied to him by Deepak Singal of Bhagwati Footwear, which has a factory at Mangolpuri in outer Delhi.
“Then we conducted raids on the premises of Bhagwati Footwear, and 1,329 pairs of counterfeit footwears bearing the trademarks of Sparx and Sparkle were recovered,” said Vyas. He said a sole moulding machine used for manufacturing the fake shoes was also found at the factory.
The police have seized the machine and sealed the factory. Singal is absconding.
“They have indulged in illegal activities and caused loss to the tune of crores of rupees to the company and the government exchequer in the last four years,” Vyas said.
