Master athlete succumbs to injuries

Master athlete Jyothi Shetty Kodavur (50), succumbed to the injuries she sustained following an accident on June 9.

The victim was travelling along with her brother as a pillion rider and fell off the bike after her brother applied sudden brakes. She was on her way home from Udupi. She was immediately rushed to KMC, Manipal, however, she breathed her last due to internal bleeding.

A resident of Kodavur, Jyothi Shetty joined the seniors Masters athletics in 2001 and has more than 100 medals to her credit as she had participated in several championships. She was also an active participant in the marathons held in the twin district Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. She was also the winner in the senior division. She had taken part in the Asian Master Athletics held in China in 2017 and won two medals in the relay and hurdles. She had also taken part in World Masters Athletics Championship held in Australia in 2016. She had also won a medal in Srilanka.

Shetty actively took part in social service. She was preparing for the World Masters Athletic Championship to be organised in Spain in September.
