A teenaged moneylender was shot at after being waylaid by two men known to him over personal enmity in west Delhi’s Ranhola, police said on Wednesday.
Vijay Mishra, 17, who lives at Nangli Sakrawati village in south-west Delhi’s Najafgarh, is undergoing treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. He is a class 12 student of Holy Convent School in Uttam Nagar.
Police said Vijay, who lends money at high rates of interests, went for collection at Vikas Nagar in Uttam Nagar when the attack took place around 9 pm on Tuesday. “Vijay has identified the attackers as Natan Tyagi and Sandeep Tyagi, both residents of Vikas Nagar,” a police official said.
In his statement to police, Vijay said he and his friend Rahul Sharma had personal enmity with Natan and was involved in a scuffle with him on Sunday. Natan had allegedly threatened Vijay of dire consequences if he continued his friendship with Rahul.
“It is alleged that Natan and Sandeep waylaid Vijay when he was at Vikas Nagar on Tuesday. They were travelling on a motorcycle. Sandeep was driving the vehicle, while Natan was riding pillion,” the official added.
Natan came to Vijay and told him that despite his warnings, Vijay was continuing his friendship with Rahul. Vijay claimed that Natan threatened to kill him and took out a country-made pistol.
“Natan allegedly aimed at Vijay’s chest, but the bullet hit his right hand as he tried to evade it at the last moment,” the official said.
The accused sped on the motorcycle, while Vijay made a call to the police control room. He was rushed to hospital.
A case of attempt to murder has been lodged over Vijay’s statement with Ranhola police station. The accused also face charges under the Arms Act.
