Ruling National Conference on Tuesday claimed that split within the moderate Hurriyat faction is handiwork of Indian agencies ‘to weaken the on-going movement in Kashmir’.

Dr Mustafa Kamal, NC additional general secretary and uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleged that Ram Jeth Malani was instrumental in dividing the Hurriyat Conference in 2002 between Geelani and Mirwaiz factions. “Now, agencies in our country are hell-bent in dividing the separatists further so that the on-going movement could be weakened at large,” he said.

Kamal, who is younger brother of Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, claimed that the policy of Indian agencies from the beginning was to use and throw the leaders in Kashmir. “They create leaders, use them and then throw them at the end.

The Indian agencies have greater role in using the leaders at one point and then making them irrelevant at the other so that new leader could be created,” he added.

The NC leader advised the Huriyat leadership to unite for the ‘common cause’ and present one picture before the world.
