The NDMC would soon be opening a modern primary school for the children of bureaucrats living in New Moti Bagh area of the Lutyens’ zone.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will fund the school’s infrastructure and private players will run it.

The NDMC officials said children of other central government employees living in neighbouring areas of Chanakyapuri would also benefit from the school.

“It is a Ministry of Urban Development’s initiative. In the residential complex of senior IAS officers in New Moti Bagh, there is a dedicated building for a play school which will be used for the proposed school. The MoUD sought our services as the NDMC runs several school under its jurisdiction,” said Rajneesh Tingal, director (Education).
Besides giving admission to the childen of central government employees, the school will also follow all the norms under the RTE, said the civic body officials.

“Moreover, abiding by the the norms of the Right to Education Act, the school will also admit children from economic weaker section (EWS),” said an NDMC official.
However, the larger question remains whether there are enough students from EWS category in the area dwelled by the elite.

The officials said the school would be licensed out to a private player who meets its specifications.

“The licence for the school will be given through an open tender for 15 years. The licensee will have to pay a monthly licence fee of Rs 50,000,” Tingal said. Work for the school is likely to start from July. It will be first such school run by the civic body.

It runs around 22 government schools in the New Delhi area and also funds the Navyug schools run by the Navyug School Education Society.
