Delhi Metro on Friday launched a week-long drive to stop male passengers from travelling on coaches reserved for women.
Eleven flying squads have been set up for all six lines of Delhi Metro and they will keep a vigil on unauthorised entry of male passengers into ladies coaches or any misbehaviour with them, especially during the peak hours of 9 to 11:30 am and 7 to 10 pm, according to a Metro spokesperson.
The flying squads will travel on the trains and conduct surprise checks.
Several people were booked and were asked to pay Rs 250 fine on the first day of the drive.
“Those found breaking the rules, disobeying the instructions of the flying squads or refusing to pay the fine will be deboarded and handed over to the Delhi Metro Rail Police,” a spokesperson said.
Along with the drive, the DMRC has also started running messages on all LCD TVs installed on stations like Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat regarding reserved coaches.
Women commuters can also inform DMRC’s 24X7 helpline number 155370 in case of any misbehavior by male passengers, Metro officials said.
