“The help desks will consist of at least three teacher counsellors and student volunteers. The student volunteers from northeastern states will take care of the language barrier for students,” said a senior official.
Primarily, the help desks have been put up for the Schedule Castes (SC) and Schedule Tribes (ST) candidates coming to the city from the northeast.
A voluntary northeastern students’ body, Kuki Students Organisation will also put up a help desk at Faculty of Arts.
“Language is the major problem for northeastern students from SC and ST backgrounds,” said Jangminthang, an ex DU student and an organisation member.
Though most of these students understand English,
the officials in DU interact in Hindi.
Hence communication gap makes things difficult when they have to fill forms,” added Jangminthang.
“The help desks will be open to all, although we have seen that SC and ST candidates face problems when it comes to language,” said the official.
Also, students from these states should also attend the open days which will help them to clear initial admission related doubts, added the official.
The help desk will be put up before the sale of admission forms starts on June 4.
