Papaya leaves have been in huge demand this season with a spurt in dengue cases across the City. Here’s why: Doctors from the alternative streams of medicine assert that the leaves are an effective ayurvedic remedy to maintain adequate count of platelets in a patient down with dengue.
Dr Madhukar, an Ayush medical officer, said that the use of papaya leaves that are medium-sized effectively helps manage dengue patients. “It is also important to include pepper and cumin in everyday diet of a dengue patient,” he added.
This apart, dry grapes, fig, almonds and leaves of Amruthaballi plant helps improve the immunity of an individual, Dr Madhukar added.
He explained that medium-sized papaya leaves should be crushed and the fresh juice extracted. Three to four spoons of the juice consumed twice a day helps maintain the necessary platelet count. Boiling ginger in water and consuming it once a day is another remedy suggested by the doctor.
