Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar landed in the US on Wednesday evening for medical treatment, according to his office.

"The chief minister reached USA at 5.30 PM IST today (Wednesday). He is fine and will undergo further treatment," the Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

Parrikar, 62, had left for the US at 1.30 am on Wednesday from the Mumbai airport by an Air India flight. The former defence minister  was accompanied by his elder son Utpal and a medical practitioner.

Parrikar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15  for pancreatitis and was discharged on February 22. On the same day, he returned to Goa and presented the Budget in the Goa Assembly, but the session was truncated to four days owing to his illness.

He was again admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital on February 25 after he complained of dehydration. He was discharged four days later.

The chief minister went to Mumbai again on March 5 for further check-up, from where he was referred to the US.
