More than one lakh members from the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) from across the country participated in a peace march from Ramlila grounds to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday.
SUCI members staged the protest over issues like price rise, unemployment, corruption, crimes against women and children, privatisation and commercialisation of education, water, electricity and health care.
“We believe that relied to the suffering, masses can only be given through developing democratic mass movements against anti-people government policies at the centre and state,” said Dr Tharun Mandal, Rajya Sabha MP, West Bengal.
He added that all policies are leading to exploitation of people as funds for their development have not reached them since several years. “Recent movements against corruption have demonstrated a common man’s urge to fight oppression and injustice,” said Mandal.
Provash Ghosh, general secretary of SUCI said class discrimination will not help overcome these issues.
