The information centre in Delhi University which was launched on March 3 has been seeing an increase in query calls with around 100 calls everyday per person.
The centre has a team of five persons.
The centre started from scratch with no system of readymade information to be disseminated to anxious students or parents, said a member.
All the information that we generate is gathered from our own sources placed in colleges and the university, added the member.
“We are preparing soft copies simultaneously while taking enquiry calls. The only thing which is worrying us is that the information we are providing should not be incorrect. Such high number of calls shows how inaccessible the college administration is to queries,” said a member.
The centre which works from 9 am to 5 pm has been given the responsibility to answer all DU related queries and respond to every mail.
“No mails are pending. Even query mails sent to all the DU officials are forwarded to us and we make sure that the reply is sent the very day,” added the member.
According to the members the majority of queries comes from DU's School of Open learning (SOL), anxious students asking for guidance in examination glitches and grievance redressal related issues.
“It is noticed that the university is not student friendly when it comes to directing them to the right place. For example a student called us asking help regarding incorrect marksheet and how to go about it. He told me that he was present in a particular exam but in his marksheet he was marked absent. Despite running around, he was unable to get the right person,” said the member.
The members said the queries are basic like asking about when the examination will start, entrance exams dates, which colleges are under DU, if a specific course is available in any DU college.
“The prospectus of many colleges are not updated. The DU website also has limited to offer. The officials of most of the colleges have not much information about what their college is offering. Proper redressal of information is lacking in colleges,” said another member.
With the admission season starting from June, the members are expecting more workload.
