The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has formulated credit plans worth Rs 4,180 crore to boost agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir.

“This money will go to all the districts for 2012-13,” said the bank’s state office general manager S C Rabra.

At the State Credit Seminar on Monday, Rabra said the credit potential of agriculture in J&K has been assessed at Rs 1,074 crore, while it is pegged at Rs 974 crore for rural non-farm sector and Rs 2,132 crore for other priority sectors.

Rabra also highlighted some crucial features of the recently announced handloom weavers package by the Centre.

The package will help improve the socio-economic status of weavers in J&K, added Rabra. According to agriculture experts in Kashmir, the state has potential to improve its farm produce.
