Postal employees in rural areas (Gramin Dak Sevaks) have begun an indefinite strike, seeking fulfilment of several demands.

Under the banner of All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union (AIGDSU), employees gave a notice calling for strike from May 22 and have placed a charter of demands before the authorities.

“Employees under the Gramin Dak Sevak category have been discriminated against for years, but continue to work despite the pathetic conditions.

The Kamalesh Chandra-led pay commission made several recommendations, bringing a ray of hope. But 18 months since the submission of the recommendations and two months after it reached the Cabinet committee, we have not seen any action,” AIGDSU regional secretary K S Rudresh said in a release.
