Latika Dikshit Syed, daughter of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, approached police on Saturday afternoon claiming that she was harassed by a man near India Gate. However, the matter was later sorted out as an instance of misunderstanding, police said.
The incident took place at around 3:30 pm, when Latika, 45, a trained social worker and a rural development consultant, was jogging in the area.
“Latika had made a police control room call saying she was in distress. When we reached at the spot, she told us that she was passing by the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan when a man, playing badminton in the area, stared at her inappropriately,” a senior police officer said. The man was later identified as Rajneesh Kumar, 27, who works as a cameraman with a regional television channel. “Latika had asked Rajneesh to keep his eyes in control, but Rajneesh questioned in reply if he should keep his eyes closed,” the officer added.
The duo then exchanged some words after which an enraged Latika approached police. “When we questioned Rajneesh, he said he had not misbehaved with Latika and insisted that it was an instance of misunderstanding,” the officer said, adding Latika and Rajneesh then settled the matter at the spot itself.
Rajneesh also apologised to Latika for making her feel harassed.
