With heavy rainfall in the past few days, the water storage level in most of the reservoirs in South India is highest compared to last 10 years, says the government.

The current total live storage is 33.57 BCM (billion cubic metres) against the 51.59 BCM capacity in 31 major reservoirs in Southern India, says data from the Central Water Commission.

This year's live water storage is the highest, which is 65 % of the total storage capacity compared to the past 10 years. The average live storage in the last 10 years was 57 % of the total storage capacity, said the Central Water Commission. Last year the total live storage as on August 16 was just 29 % of the total live storage capacity of 31 reservoirs.
