For the fourth consecutive year after the bifurcation of the Telugu states, Telangana, which fought for a separate state, is all decked up to celebrate the formation day on Saturday.

Telangana will be celebrating the formation day at the parade grounds. The government has rolled out 18,428 new police posts, a new registration system and a comprehensive insurance scheme for farmers as part of the celebrations.

The celebrations will be held in all the 30 districts of the state simultaneously. Telangana recently launched ‘Rythu Bandh' scheme which provides farmers Rs 8,000 as input assistance for two crops every year.

On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh will observe 'Nava Nirmana Deeksha' on June 2 against the “unscientific” division of the state by the UPA-II government.

United Andhra Pradesh used to observe state formation day on November 1.

As a regular practice, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lead the people in taking a vow to work hard for the betterment of the state which lags in economic indices when compared with other southern states.

The state, which had no capital at the time of division, is still struggling to take a final call on the design for its capital city at Amaravati to be built on the banks of the Krishna.

While one of the plans, Norman Foster of UK, for “Seed Capital” consisting of a secretariat, high court and Assembly has been approved, the state is still scouting for finances.

The project might get further delayed with the strained centre-state relations after Naidu withdrew from NDA and two of his ministers quit Narendra Modi’s Cabinet.

The main Opposition Y S R Congress is gearing up for a protest in Nellore on formation day, against the Centre and the state government for failing to accord “Special Category status”, which was assured by the previous government at the time of division of the state.

However, Janasena Party chief Pawan Kalyan opposed the concentration of government’s energies on building a capital, saying that Naidu is repeating the same mistake he committed in Hyderabad.
