Despite police crackdowns in recent months, some big names among gangsters still remain at large. Surender Malik alias Netu Dabodia is among them, on top of the Delhi police list of most wanted men.

Dabodia does not use cell phones and communicates with his men through letters, which makes it tough for investigators to trace him.

On the run for over a year, he is accused of killing a policeman and has been named in extortion cases.

Dabodia ran his extortion racket even when he was lodged in Haryana’s Bhondsi Jail. A resident of Jhajjar, he is also involved in attempt to murder and cases under the Arms Act and the anti-organised crime law MCOCA.

A police officer says Dabodia was in Bhondsi Jail after Haryana Police arrested him in 2010, but he and his associates ran their racket from the prison. They allegedly arranged supply of weapons, ammunition and vehicles to gang members. Dabodia escaped while he was being taken to Saket court from Bhondsi Jail in April 2012.

He was involved in the murder of head constable Ram Kishen on November 25, 2012. Kishen was on duty at a police picket when he flagged down Dabodia’s car. Instead of stopping, Dabodia shot Kishen, who succumbed to injuries later, police say. Delhi Police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for anyone who leads them to his arrest. Other agencies too have made similar offers.

Satyawan alias Sonu is another man wanted in cases of robbery, extortion and murder, and carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh. Sonu is from Daryapur village in Bawana. Short-tempered, he entered the world of crime in a fit of rage. His cousin eloped with one of his friends. Since he did not approve of their relationship, he shot his friend’s brother. He was arrested later.

In jail, he met others who encouraged him to join them to earn quick money, following which he conspired with other inmates and escaped. He has six cases of robbery and cases under the Arms Act registered against him. He operates mainly in outer and north-west Delhi. He has been on the run since 2009.

Anil alias Lila, another wanted criminal, is involved in murder and robbery cases in the capital and Haryana. He has been evading police for the past several years, and carries a reward of Rs 20,000 from Haryana Police. Anil, who hails from Haryana’s Bahadurgarh, has been involved in a dozen extortion and robbery cases.

He was also associated with the Netu Dabodia gang. He had adopted the lifestyle of a businessman to hide his activities.

Raj Kumar, who hails from Savada village in north-west Delhi, has 70 cases against him. Unlike the other gangsters, he has been involved in petty crimes and carjacking cases in UP, Haryana and Delhi. He operates his own gang, and has roped in petty criminals to become members of his gang.

He has a wide network of criminals across the three states, and has been evading police for the past several years.

Rajesh Mongali of Munda in outer Delhi is wanted in 17 cases in the capital. He has been associated with other gangsters and evaded police for the past several years.

He always robs people in cars at gunpoint, and then he uses the cars for other crimes. He does not keep a cell phone and is not in touch with his family.
