Three drug addicts commit robbery, land in police net

Three youths addicted to drugs committed their first robbery to get money to buy more contraband. But within three days of the crime they landed in police net. 

  
With their arrest, the police claim to have solved a robbery case which involved a businessman in Lajpat Nagar area of south east Delhi.

“The three accused are first timers and committed the crime to buy drugs,” said a police officer.

Rasil alias Mehboob, 18, Mohammad Saleem alias Raghu, 21 and Mohammad Mustafa, 23,  were arrested in Nizamuddin area in south east Delhi on late on Tuesday night by the special staff of south east police.

“We have recovered the robbed articles and cash from their possession,” said a police officer.

Police received a call during Saturday night that four armed persons had barged into house of Akhlak Ahmad Qureshi, who owns a copper business and lived in Lajpat Nagar Part -I.

The robbers barged into the ground floor house, held hostage Qureshi at gunpoint and decamped with Rs 29,000 in cash, two wristwatches, three mobile phones, kitchen utensils and clothes.

A team of special staff comprising sub-inspector Pappu Lal Katewa, Sandeep Godara and Bharat Singh was formed under the supervision of inspector Rajesh Kumar.

After investigation, they found that the youths involved in the robbery lived near Nizamuddin Dargah. They laid a trap and arrested the three of them.

During interrogation the arrested revealed that Mohammad Islam, the mastermind behind the robbery was absconding.

Islam used to visit the area in search of drugs and found that Qureshi was staying alone in the flat. They hatched a plan and barged into his house with a gun and knives. 

Police are searching Mohammad Islam.
